Will a golf simulator fit in your room?
Your room may suit a simulator if it has enough clearance for your actual swing, the enclosure and the chosen launch monitor. A 10 ft ceiling, 14 ft width and 18–20 ft depth are useful planning targets for a centered bay; some smaller rooms work with an offset hitting position or a different device. Enter your dimensions to see which questions to resolve before buying.
This tool compares planning dimensions. It cannot measure your club's path or confirm a product's installation. Test every intended club from the actual hitting surface, with the garage door and other obstructions in their normal positions.
The calculator runs in your browser and nothing is emailed. If you copy the share link below, your room measurements are part of that link, so anyone you send it to can read them.

These examples show how the planning bands apply. None confirms that a particular golfer, screen or device fits.

The height calculation assumes a 2.5 in mat; actual mats vary. Enclosure installation clearance belongs in the frame's sizing, so it is not deducted from the whole room's swing height. Sources and their individual check dates are in the dataset.

Measure to the lowest thing on the ceiling — a light fixture, a pipe, a garage door rail, a beam. That is your real ceiling, not the drywall.
Thresholds come from published guidance by Carl's Place, Indoor Golf Shop and Trackman, together with the explicit assumptions listed below.

Changes to this tool
- 2026-10-12 — Results now distinguish planning bands from individual swing and device fit. Height subtracts the assumed mat only; frame installation clearance is checked separately. Screen ratio is no longer inferred from room width.
- 2026-09-08 — Each saved room now carries a build checklist in the card at the top of this page: the questions to put to a supplier, plus the items your own measurements make relevant — a garage temperature range, a camera-only shortlist, a left-hander sharing the room. Ticks are kept with the room in this browser. Thresholds unchanged.
- 2026-09-08 — Save on this device now holds up to five named rooms instead of one. A room saved under the old single-room version is carried over automatically. Corrected the Trackman iO ceiling band: the standard iO publishes a LOW band from 8′10″ measured at the hitting surface, and the iO DUO starts at 9′4″.

Where the planning bands come from. Carl's Place room planning provides the general ceiling, offset/centered width and screen-distance guidance. Indoor Golf Shop's height table provides the taller-player bands. The tool conservatively uses its taller band for the 6′2″-and-over selection. Trackman iO mounting specifications are measured from turf to ceiling, independently of swing clearance. These sources were checked 12 October 2026. The 2.5 in mat, 8 ft low-height warning and 16 ft depth break are this tool's planning assumptions, not manufacturer safety limits. Check exact models and your actual mat before purchase.
