How much does a golf simulator room cost?

The gear is a launch monitor, an impact screen and enclosure, a projector, and a hitting mat. It goes into a space that is already dry, powered, lit, and warm enough to swing a driver in. Check the package contents against that list, then price the room work separately.

How much does a golf simulator cost in total?

Carl's Place describes an equipment setup around $3,000–$5,000, a low-to-medium budget of $3,000–$7,000, and high-budget equipment at $10,000–$20,000. Rain or Shine Golf uses different package bands. Neither list is a quote for finishing your room, and the bands overlap.

The launch monitor and its software

The launch monitor can take a large share of the budget, but there is no fixed fraction. Pick a model that works in your room and with the software you want. A hardware price doesn't tell you which course library, club data, or third-party connector is included.

Screen, enclosure, projector, and mat

Compare the screen material and size, the frame, padding, and side protection as separate line items. A kit may include the screen while leaving the tubing or mounting accessories to you. Check the selected kit's contents rather than assuming every enclosure ships with a complete frame.

Size is its own question. Screen dimensions, enclosure footprint, and the listing name can differ. The published dimensions are in golf simulator enclosure size.

Why short-throw

A projector behind the golfer can put a shadow on the screen. Work out the lens-to-screen distance from the projector's throw ratio and image width, then check mounting height, the light path, and ball protection. Short throw alone doesn't guarantee a safe mount or a shadow-free picture. Screen size and ambient light affect brightness needs, so don't use a single lumen figure for every room.

The room itself

HomeGuide estimates a full garage finish at $3,000 to $17,000 in the United States, and basement finishing at $15,000 to $75,000 (for 500–1,500 sq ft; checked 12 October 2026). These are different scopes of building work, not automatic additions to every simulator. Check what your room needs, including moisture control, power, lighting, ventilation, and temperature control. A 220V outlet is not a universal simulator requirement. Have a licensed electrician size any new circuit or outlet for the equipment you actually select.

Corrections. On 23 August 2026 the single permits row was changed from $1,000–$2,000 to $200–$1,000. That was an over-correction: HomeGuide publishes $1,000–$2,000 for an attached-garage conversion and $200–$1,000, or 1 to 2%, for basement finishing, and the two had been merged into one row. Since 6 September 2026 the table shows them separately. Permit requirements and fees are set by your municipality and depend on whether the work touches structure, electrical, HVAC or occupancy, so confirm locally before you budget.

Costs to check beyond the headline price

Check these items against your package quote. Some bundles include a PC, software, or side protection; others leave them separate.

• Software. Separate included practice features from optional course play and paid data. For example, five years of Uneekor Pro at an unchanged $199 annual price would be $995 before any tax or third-party license; renewal prices can change.
• The mat. Compare how each mat is built and what its maker recommends. Measure its actual height: the hitting surface reduces the overhead clearance available for your swing.
• A computer or mobile device. Budget for the device required by the selected software unless the package includes it. A launch monitor's screen doesn't necessarily replace a simulation computer.
• Side barriers. Plan side barriers or netting from day one, following the enclosure maker's guidance. A mishit can leave the enclosure and hit a wall, window, or person. Keep spectators outside swing range.
• Replacement parts. Screens and mats wear with use. No universal lifespan applies to every product. Check the selected manufacturer's care instructions and warranty instead of budgeting from a promised number of years.

Should you finance a golf simulator room?

Start with one thing you can check: does the amount you're financing include the room work? The published high-budget equipment bands are $10,000–$20,000 in Carl's Place's tiers and $10,000–$25,000+ in Rain or Shine Golf's. A room that needs a full garage finish may add $3,000–$17,000, while a smaller upfit has a different scope. Borrowing against the package price alone can leave building work unfunded.

• Published prices can change. Retailer bands are planning guidance. The dated product example includes closeout pricing, which does not guarantee future stock or price.
• The room-work ranges are US national contractor averages. HomeGuide itself says regional variation is large. One local quote tells you more than that whole table.

Three cheaper routes that pay us nothing

• Net and mat, without projection. A properly rated net and a compatible practice app can avoid the projector and impact-screen cost. Check containment and software requirements before removing items from the budget.
• Buy the launch monitor used. Check condition, warranty eligibility, and license transfer with the manufacturer. A lower hardware price may leave software or repair costs outstanding.
• Rent the bay instead. If your room work is the $15,000–$75,000 basement number, price out a local indoor golf venue by the hour before anything else.

So what should you budget?

If your room is already usable, start with an equipment list and add the missing components, installation, tax, and delivery. If it needs finishing, get that work quoted before buying the golf gear. For illustration, a $5,000 equipment quote plus $3,000 of room work totals $8,000 before any costs excluded from those quotes. That is arithmetic, not a package offer or a contractor estimate.

Is a garage or a basement cheaper for a golf simulator?
It depends on their condition and how much space you finish. The national full-finish ranges above cover different projects. Compare local quotes for the same intended work, including any moisture or climate-control work.

Can you build a golf simulator for under $3,000?
A practice setup without projection may fit that budget in an already usable room. For a projected bay, itemize the monitor, software, screen, frame, mat, projector, device, and ball protection before treating a retailer's entry band as a promise.

Do you have to pay a launch monitor subscription forever?
Not on every unit or for every feature. The Mevo+ example above includes a course pack without a subscription, while Home Tee Hero and Uneekor's paid plans have separate requirements. Choose the features you need, then check their license and renewal terms.
