What this site is for
A home sauna is one of the few purchases where the expensive mistake is not choosing the wrong model. It is discovering, after delivery, that the room needs a circuit the house cannot give it. The cabin is portable, returnable, resellable. The service entrance is none of those things.
So this site is organized backwards from the usual. It starts with load, works outward to circuit and conductor, and only then talks about cedar.

The gap this site fills
On 2026-09-06 I opened ten online sauna heater calculators and ran each one. Nine produced readable output. All nine returned a heater size and stopped there or moved straight to a list of heaters to buy. One — AllSaunas — also returns a breaker size and a wire gauge, though as its own 240 V calculation rather than from a named model's manual, and it then tells you to go and confirm your panel has the capacity.
None of the nine asked a single question about the house. Not the service rating, not the main breaker, not what else is already on the panel. That is the step this planner was built to cover. The ten tools, the three checkpoints and the check date are listed in the methodology.
The Quiet Heat is willing to tell you not to buy. If the numbers say your 200 amp service is already carrying an EV charger, an electric range and a heat pump, the planner will say so and point you at a cabinet that plugs into an existing outlet instead. If this site is ever paid for these links, that recommendation will be the one that earns it least. It is still the correct one, and a site that cannot say it is not worth reading.
Where published sources contradict each other
Four times while researching this site, primary sources disagreed with each other in ways that change what you would buy. I have not smoothed any of them over.
- The cubic-feet-per-kilowatt ratio. Published figures run from 35 to 50 cubic feet per kW — a 43 % spread. HUUM's own article gives a ratio that contradicts HUUM's own model tables. This is why the planner reads model tables instead of applying a ratio.
- The room a HUUM DROP is rated for. HUUM's U.S. user manual runs the DROP 9 to 530 cubic feet. HUUM's product page stops the same heater at 13 cubic meters, which is 459. Two HUUM documents, one heater. The planner sizes on the manual and tells you when the product page would have put you on a bigger unit.
- The cold-surface adder. Harvia adds 2 cubic feet per square foot of glass or stone. HUUM's retail sizing sheet adds 4.92. Both are manufacturer documents. The planner carries both forward and shows you the range.
- The circuit for a 6 kW heater. Harvia's current KIP60W page lists a minimum 25 A fuse with 10 AWG. HUUM's US manual lists a 30 A breaker with 10 AWG. US retailers quote 40 A and 8 AWG, which is what the 125 % continuous-load arithmetic produces. All three are on the electrical page, with no guess as to which is right for your installation.

Cold plunge floor load and power
A filled 105-gallon plunge is about 1,150 lb over 16.8 sq ft. Why that is not a pass/fail test against the code's room live load, what a structural engineer actually looks at, and the circuit the model publishes.
What you will not find here. No health claims. This site does not say sauna detoxifies, boosts immunity, burns calories, lowers blood pressure or treats any condition, because none of that can be substantiated from the sources here and the FTC has already sent warning letters to companies in this exact category for saying it. Heat and cold immersion also carry real cardiac risk for some people. Talk to a doctor about the health question and read this site for the engineering one.
