What size golf simulator enclosure will fit your room?

The enclosure is the frame and fabric surround that holds the impact screen. Its side and ceiling panels help contain stray shots; they don't guarantee that every mis-hit stays inside. The listing name, outer frame, and viewable screen describe different measurements. Your room needs to accommodate the frame and its clearances.

The Pro C-Series chart

These are the six standard layouts in the manufacturer's chart, in inches. The screen columns describe the viewable area, rather than the entire piece of screen fabric.

Does the impact screen size tell you the room size?

No. The SIG10 screen is 10 ft 1 in wide, but its enclosure is 10 ft 10 in wide. Comparing listing names doesn't compare the space the frames occupy.

The assembly guides separately recommend a room at least 10 ft wide, 16 ft long, and 9 ft high for SIG8, and 12 ft wide, 18 ft long, and 9 ft high for SIG10. Both product pages warn that your swing may need more than 9 ft of ceiling height. Clearing the frame is one test; clearing the club is another.

Clearance around the frame

• Pro sides: allow 2–3 in on each side.
• Pro above: allow at least 2 in for assembly.
• Pro rear: the fitting needs at least 9.5 in; Carl's recommends a 12 in rear buffer.

For DIY, the rear fitting needs 8.25 in and the product page recommends 12 in at the rear. Carl's general sizing guide allows 2–3 in above and on each side. A fitting minimum tells you where the hardware ends; it doesn't replace the space needed for a screen to move under impact.

The SIG8 and SIG10 product pages do not specify separate side and rear buffer distances. Their recommended room dimensions are not interchangeable with Carl's buffers. Confirm the chosen SIGPRO installation's screen movement and wall clearance with the supplier if the room is tight.

How deep is a 5 ft enclosure?

For the Pro C-Series, the chart lists 69.5 in for the nominal 5 ft depth and says the rear fitting adds 9.5 in. The hardware footprint is therefore 79 in, or 6 ft 7 in. Its other listed depths are 105.5, 129.5, and 189.5 in for the 8, 10, and 15 ft options, before that rear fitting.

The DIY sheet is more explicit: its screen-to-front-frame depth is 59.125 in and its fitting-inclusive footprint is 67.375 in. Using the recommended 12 in rear buffer instead gives 71.125 in from the rear wall to the front of that frame. Don't add the fitting again to a footprint that already includes it.

These are enclosure dimensions, not whole-room depths. Your hitting position, swing space, and launch monitor also have to fit. The radar vs camera guide explains the different measurement points.

Which enclosure size fits a 12 ft wide room?

The Pro 9 x 12 does not: its 148.4 in frame already exceeds a 144 in room. With 2–3 in on each side, it needs 152.4–154.4 in of width. Its 114 in height plus the 2 in assembly allowance needs 116 in above the floor supporting the frame.

The following dimensions are our calculations from the Pro chart and product-page buffers. They are frame installation allowances, not minimum room sizes for golf.

The 8.5 x 11 row needs 143.1–145.1 in across. A 144 in wall accommodates the lower end of that buffer range, but not the upper end. Baseboards, outlets, and manufacturing variation leave less room than a bare-wall measurement suggests.

The DIY line

These six layouts come from Carl's current manufacturer sheet. All dimensions below are inches; each has the 59.125 in frame depth and 67.375 in hardware footprint described above. The sheet advises allowing for small manufacturing variation.

The DIY 9 x 12 frame is 112 by 146.3 in; the Pro is 114 by 148.4 in. Those dimensions are close, but their framing and options differ. Let the room pick the size, then compare the complete kit totals with what a golf simulator room actually costs open beside you.

What the measurements do not establish

• Swing clearance: a frame that fits under the ceiling may still interfere with your club. Include your mat, the lowest obstruction, and the intended clubs in a slow practice-swing check.
• Containment: frame dimensions alone do not show whether a wedge or shank will hit protected material. Follow the chosen enclosure's instructions for side, ceiling, and exposed-frame protection.
• Testing: we have not tested these enclosures.

What should you measure first?

Height, then width, then depth. Write all three in inches and note where each measurement starts. A garage door track can be the lowest obstruction in one part of the room while the ceiling is lower somewhere else. Measure the space the frame and swing will actually use.
