Golf simulator enclosure size: the name is not the measurement

A golf simulator enclosure is the frame, side panels and ceiling panel that hold an impact screen and stop a mis-hit from leaving the bay. The impact screen is the projection surface inside that frame. The two are different sizes, the product name is usually a third size, and a tape measure only cares about the largest of the three.

How big is a golf simulator enclosure, really?

Carl's Place publishes the answer as a chart, which is more than most of this market does. The six Pro C-Series sizes below are the manufacturer's own figures, in inches, with the listing name in the first column so the gap is visible (checked 1 September 2026).

Read the 9 x 12 row across. The listing name is 108 in by 144 in. The screen is 102.3 in by 136.4 in. The frame is 114 in by 148.4 in. Three sizes, one product, and an 11.7 in difference in height between the screen you will watch and the frame that has to clear your ceiling.

Does the impact screen size tell you the room size?

No, and the two large brands do not even use the name the same way. SIGPRO names the SIG10 after its screen: the impact screen is 10 ft 1 in wide and the enclosure around it is 10 ft 10 in wide (checked 1 September 2026). Carl's Place names the Pro C-Series 9 x 12 after neither, with a 136.4 in screen and a 148.4 in frame sitting on either side of a 144 in name. A shopper comparing a "10" to a "12" across the two brands is comparing two different measurements.

Both SIGPRO pages carry the same sentence about height, and it is worth reading twice: you may need more than 9 ft of ceiling, depending on your swing, even though the frame is 8 ft 4 in tall. The frame clearing the ceiling and the club clearing the ceiling are two separate tests, and this page only settles the first one. The second is what the room size calculator is for.

How much clearance does an enclosure need on top of that?

Carl's Place publishes four clearance figures, and three of them are additive to the frame dimensions in the chart above (all checked 1 September 2026):

• Sides: 2 to 3 in each. The DIY product page states it as a subtraction — take 4 to 6 in off the width you have available before choosing a size.
• Above: 2 in. Published for the Pro kit as the room needed to assemble the frame, and given as a 2 to 3 in buffer on the DIY kit.
• Behind, minimum: 9.5 in on the Pro kit and 8.25 in on the DIY kit. This is the space the rear backset fittings physically occupy, not a comfort margin.
• Behind, recommended: 12 in on both kits.

SIGPRO does not publish a side or rear clearance figure on either enclosure page. That number is unconfirmed for the SIG8 and SIG10 as of 1 September 2026, so ask for it in writing before ordering a frame that fills the wall.

How deep is a 5 ft enclosure?

Six feet seven inches, once the fittings are counted. The Carl's Place chart gives the Pro C-Series depth options as 69.5 in for the 5 ft option, 105.5 in for 8 ft, 129.5 in for 10 ft and 189.5 in for 15 ft, and adds that the rear backset fitting adds another 9.5 in (checked 1 September 2026). So the 5 ft option is 69.5 in plus 9.5 in, which is 79 in, or 6 ft 7 in of floor gone before the golfer has stood anywhere.

That figure matters more than the width for one reason: depth is also what decides which launch monitors are available to you at all. Radar units sit behind the ball and camera units sit beside it, which is a separate 6 ft argument covered in radar vs camera.

Which enclosure size fits a 12 ft wide room?

Not the one called 12. Taking the Carl's Place Pro C-Series 9 x 12 and its own published clearances: 148.4 in of frame plus 4 to 6 in of side clearance is 152.4 to 154.4 in, which is 12 ft 8 in to 12 ft 10 in of wall. The same arithmetic on height is 114 in plus 2 in, or 9 ft 8 in of ceiling. A room that measures a flat 12 ft by 9 ft does not take the 9 x 12.

The table below runs that arithmetic across the Pro C-Series chart. The two right-hand columns are calculated from the published figures, not quoted from Carl's Place: frame width plus 5 in, and frame height plus 2 in.

What does the DIY line measure?

Much the same, at a lower price. The DIY C-Series sizes below are the retailer's published outer dimensions in inches, with the standard impact screen (checked 1 September 2026). The rear backset fitting adds 8.25 in behind the frame on this line rather than the 9.5 in of the Pro kit.

The DIY 9 x 12 frame is 112 in by 146.3 in and the Pro 9 x 12 frame is 114 in by 148.4 in, so the two lines are within about 2 in of each other on both axes. The size decision and the price decision are separable: pick the size from the room, then pick the line from the budget in what a golf simulator room actually costs.

What we could not verify

Three places, and the first one is the one that could cost you money.

• Two of the four tables are retailer listings, not manufacturer specification sheets. The SIGPRO figures come from the Shop Indoor Golf product pages and the DIY figures from a reseller listing. Only the Pro C-Series table comes from the manufacturer's own chart. Ask for the chart before ordering.
• The clearance arithmetic is ours, not the manufacturer's. The two calculated columns add published clearances to published frame dimensions. Carl's Place does not publish a "wall width needed" figure, and a frame is not a wall — baseboards, outlets and a garage door track all eat into the same inches.
• This page is built to earn referral fees from the retailers it links to. A referral fee pays better on a larger enclosure than a smaller one, and this page argues for measuring before buying, which points the other way. Whether any link currently pays us is stated in the disclosure. Judge the numbers, not the recommendation.

What should you measure first?

Height, then width, then depth, and write all three down in inches rather than feet. Feet invite rounding, and every gap on this page is smaller than a foot: 12 in between screen and frame, 4 to 6 in of side clearance, 2 in above, 9.5 in of backset. A room recorded as "about nine foot" has already lost the precision the decision needs.
