What Golf Simulator Can You Build for $3,000, $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000?

Published

A $3,000 budget covers a net, mat and launch monitor without projection. At $5,000, the examples add an enclosure and impact screen; $10,000 moves to a camera launch monitor and a wider enclosure; $20,000 allows a Foresight GC3 at list price with a taller bay.

Those higher tiers are not finished-build quotes. From $5,000 up, the totals leave equipment or work unpriced, including the PC, projector or enclosure pipe where noted. The priced parts in the $20,000 example use about 61% of the budget. Shipping, sales tax, electrical work and room finish are excluded.

Check the room before choosing a tier. An enclosure can require more space than the launch monitor alone, and a more expensive monitor does not necessarily shorten the room. Prices below use list figures checked October 21, 2026, with sale prices shown separately.

If your room meets only the first row, check clearance for the $3,000 net build before assuming it fits, whatever your budget. Spending more does not help if the enclosure will not fit. Enter your width, depth and ceiling height in the Room size calculator before you price anything else, then price the tier whose equipment fits those dimensions.

The $3,000 build: net, mat, launch monitor, no projector

At this tier, the ball goes into a net and the numbers appear on a phone or tablet. Nothing is projected.

ComponentExample productList priceWhy it is in this tier

MatCountry Club Elite mat, 4 x 5 ft$479 at Carl's Place, checked Nov. 8, 2026 (store page)1.75 in thick. The larger sizes cost more: $599 for 5 x 5 ft, $959 for 5 x 8 ft and $1,199 for 5 x 10 ft

SoftwareGarmin Golf membership$99.99 a yearGarmin's Home Tee Hero course mode needs an active membership (R10 page)

With the 4 x 5 ft Country Club Elite mat, the first year comes to $499.99 + $499.99 + $479 + $99.99 = $1,578.97. With the Fiberbuilt mat, it is $499.99 + $499.99 + $1,499 + $99.99 = $2,598.97. Both stay under $3,000, and the mat is the only difference between them.

The nearest alternative is the Rapsodo MLM2PRO. Its list price is $699.99, which puts it over the $600 line. Rapsodo showed it at $549.99 on the check date. Simulated courses require the Core membership at $199.99 a year. Practice mode on GSPro, E6 CONNECT, Awesome Golf and The Stack is free, according to Rapsodo's FAQ. The same FAQ says measured spin rate and spin axis require Rapsodo's RPT balls, and a three-ball sleeve comes in the box.

Room figures: Garmin's placement tips put the R10's indoor minimum at 15 ft long, 8 ft wide and 8 ft high (checked November 8, 2026). The SPG-8 is 8 ft wide and 8 ft tall, the same as the width and height minimums, so a room built exactly to those minimums would leave no clearance at the side walls or ceiling. With its roof attachment adding a foot, the complete net needs more than an 8-foot ceiling.

The $5,000 build: enclosure, screen and a short-throw projector

An enclosure and impact screen replace the practice net at this tier.

The SIG8, SIG10 and SIG12 prices all come from that one SIG10 page.

The parts with verified prices total $699.99 + $1,799.99 + $499.95 + $199.99 = $3,199.92. Subtracting that from $5,000 leaves $1,800.08. That remainder has to cover the projector, its mount, cables and any computer you run the software on. We have not checked whether a suitable projector fits within it, so treat this as a partial subtotal.

The Indoor Golf Shop showed the SIG8 on sale at $1,439.99 on the check date. If you want an enclosure that starts below the SIG8's list price, Omaha Sports & Games lists the Impact Sports Golf Simulator Bay Enclosure from $1,200 and the GolfBays SimBox from $1,444.15 (October 23, 2026). Both come in several versions, so check which one the starting price buys against the room figures below.

Carl's Place offers a cheaper route with its DIY enclosure kit with impact screen. In the 8 x 8 ft size with the Standard Golf Impact screen it costs $999.95, and the matching Pipe Framing Kit adds $349.95 (both checked November 8, 2026). That puts the frame, screen and enclosure at $1,349.95, or $450.04 less than the SIG8 at list price. The kit includes the BlackStop enclosure, steel corner fittings and zip ties, and the frame you build sets the depth. The other three screen materials and the larger sizes cost more.

Room figures: the SIG8 needs 10 ft wide and 16 ft deep in this site's earlier guide, taken from the assembly instructions. The enclosure stands 8 ft 4 in high in the same earlier guide (SIG8 page), so it is taller than an 8-foot ceiling. Rapsodo's FAQ calls for more than 14 ft in total: 6.5 to 8.5 ft behind the ball plus 8 ft to the net (Rapsodo FAQ). That adds up to 14.5 to 16.5 ft from the unit to the screen. In a 16-foot room, only the shorter end of that range works, and that is before you leave any space behind the screen. Radar vs camera: the 6 ft that decides your launch monitor explains why the radar unit needs this lane behind the golfer.

The $10,000 build: camera launch monitor and a dedicated PC

At $10,000, the Bushnell Launch Pro replaces the behind-the-ball unit, and more of the budget goes to a wider enclosure. The room does not get shorter: the Bushnell and SIG10 figures below are both 18 ft deep.

The priced parts come to $2,999.99 + $1,999.99 + $1,499 + $599 = $7,097.98. Foresight bills every Foresight+ tier once a year, so Gold counts here as a first-year cost; an older FSX license on your account unlocks Silver and Course Pass but not Gold. That leaves $2,902.02 of the $10,000 for the PC, the projector and its mount. Foresight's Premier courses need a Course Pass on top of Silver ($199 a year) or Gold, priced at $295 a year for 30-plus courses or $595 for all 111, and that would come out of the same remainder. Bushnell recommends premium golf balls for the Launch Pro (support page).

For the projector, Omaha Sports & Games lists the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 4K RGB Triple Laser Projector from $2,099 (October 23, 2026) in its golf simulator projector range. At that price, $803.02 of the remainder is left for the PC and mount. We have not confirmed its throw distance for a hitting bay, so check it against your room before you order.

Two other camera units fit this tier:

  • SkyTrak+: $2,995 list, shown at $1,995 on the check date. Course play requires Core or higher. Core: Foresight costs $299.99 a year, and the $99.99 Essential plan covers only the driving range and practice (membership page). With the same enclosure and mat, the first year is $2,995 + $1,999.99 + $1,499 + $299.99 = $6,793.98.
  • Uneekor EYE MINI: $4,500 list, shown at $2,999 on the check date. It reads putts and does not need marked balls. The third-party connector requires the Pro plan at $199 a year. With the same enclosure and mat: $4,500 + $1,999.99 + $1,499 + $199 = $8,197.99. Ask Uneekor for its minimum room width and depth; we have not confirmed either.

Room figures: the Bushnell Launch Pro needs 12 ft wide, 18 ft deep and a 9-foot ceiling in this site's earlier guide (Bushnell's simulator page), and the SIG10 needs 12 by 18 ft in its assembly instructions (also this site's earlier figure). The SIG10 stands 8 ft 4 in (100 in) high, so a 9-foot (108 in) ceiling leaves 8 in above the frame. On its own, the SkyTrak+ needs less space: 12 ft deep, 10 ft wide and a 9-foot ceiling in this site's earlier figure (SkyTrak hitting-bay page). The SIG10 still sets the room size for this build.

The $20,000 build: pro-grade launch monitor and a finished bay

The priced components use about 61% of the $20,000 budget ($12,191.99 of $20,000). A built-in or curved enclosure and a 4K-class projector could use some of the remainder, but their prices have not been verified, so this is a partial subtotal.

Enclosure and screenSIG12, The Indoor Golf Shop$2,499.99 (price listed on the shop's SIG10 page, which also covers SIG8 and SIG12)9 ft 4 in high, 12 ft 2 in wide, 5 ft deep (this site's earlier figures)
MatFiberbuilt Grass Series 9x4 studio mat$1,499Same mat as the $10,000 build
SoftwareForesight+ Gold plus Course Pass Pro$599 a year; $595 a yearGold covers GSPro, and Course Pass Pro adds all 111 Premier courses
Projector, PC, built-in or curved enclosureNot chosenNot pricedWould come out of the remaining budget

The priced items total $6,999 + $2,499.99 + $1,499 + $599 + $595 = $12,191.99. That leaves $7,808.01 unaccounted for. It would have to cover the projector, PC and any custom enclosure or finish work, and we have no verified prices to say how it would be spent. For a 4K-class projector, Omaha Sports & Games lists the Valerion VisionMaster Max 4K RGB Triple Laser Projector at $3,699 (October 23, 2026), which would leave $4,109.01 for the PC and the enclosure or finish work.

The sale price can move a GC3 build into a lower tier. Foresight showed the GC3 at $3,999 on the check date. At that price, the GC3, SIG12, Fiberbuilt mat and Gold come to $3,999 + $2,499.99 + $1,499 + $599 = $8,596.99 before any Course Pass. That is within the $10,000 tier.

The free Foresight tier gives the GC3 ball and club data, MyBag and 10 sessions of shot history, but it cannot be used with a Course Pass (Foresight cost page). The GC3 page marks Putting Analysis as unavailable; that does not establish that simulator putts cannot be played. Confirm putting in the software you intend to run. In this site's earlier guide, left-handed play with the GC3 means moving the unit to the other side of the ball (Foresight help).

Room figures: the SIG12 is 9 ft 4 in high and 12 ft 2 in wide in this site's earlier guide (SIG12 page). That is 4 in more height than a 9-foot ceiling. These are the enclosure's own dimensions, not a published room requirement. We have not confirmed a minimum room depth or width for the GC3 or the SIG12, so ask Foresight and The Indoor Golf Shop, and measure the room yourself for this tier.

What changes between tiers

Where the launch monitor sits changes from tier to tier. The MLM2PRO and the R10 both go behind the ball and need a measured lane back there: 6.5 to 8.5 ft for the MLM2PRO (Rapsodo FAQ) and 6 to 8 ft for the R10 (Garmin placement tips). For the SkyTrak+, Bushnell, EYE MINI and GC3, ask the maker where the unit sits. A camera unit does not by itself mean a shorter room: the Bushnell's 18 ft depth is longer than the R10's 15 ft minimum. Left-handed play is confirmed for two units: the GC3 needs repositioning to the other side (this site's earlier figure), and the MLM2PRO uses a handedness setting with the same placement. We have no verified left-handed answer for the SkyTrak+, Bushnell or EYE MINI, so ask each maker before buying.

Compare software costs at the tier you intend to use: a practice plan and a course-play plan do not buy the same access.

The MLM2PRO, SkyTrak+, EYE MINI and GC3 were all on sale on the check date, so a unit can drop a tier on price, but the sale can also end before you order.
