What Is Garmin Home Tee Hero, and What Do You Need to Use It?

Home Tee Hero is Garmin’s virtual-golf platform for compatible Approach launch monitors. Garmin lists more than 43,000 courses and requires an active Garmin Golf Membership for virtual rounds. Approach R10 users run Home Tee Hero from a compatible smartphone or iPad. The Approach R50 can run it on its own screen and send the picture to a larger display through HDMI.
It turns Garmin shot data into a virtual round
The launch monitor measures the shot. Home Tee Hero uses that result to move the ball around a mapped golf course and continue the round.
It is part of Garmin’s own ecosystem, not a stand-alone simulator program designed to work with unrelated launch monitors. That distinction matters if you are comparing it with software such as GSPro or E6 CONNECT.
You need a Garmin Golf Membership
Home Tee Hero sits behind Garmin’s paid Golf Membership. The free Garmin Golf app still has other functions, but virtual rounds in Home Tee Hero require the membership.
Treat that as part of the ongoing simulator cost. A lower hardware price can look different once the software or membership you actually want is included.
R10 users bring the phone into the simulator chain
For the Approach R10, Home Tee Hero runs on a compatible smartphone or iPad. If you want the course on a TV or projector, the phone also needs a dependable way to send the picture to that display.
Test that before you hide cables or buy adapters. A wireless or wired display path that works casually in the living room may be less convenient when you use it every time you practice.
The R50 is more self-contained
The Approach R50 has a built-in screen and can run Home Tee Hero directly on the launch monitor. Garmin says an HDMI cable can go straight from the R50 to a projector, TV, or monitor, and the output resolution is 1080p.
For Garmin’s own simulator experience, that can remove the need for a separate gaming PC. Third-party software is a different question and may still bring its own computer and subscription requirements.
A projector is optional
You can start with a safe hitting area, the Garmin launch monitor, the required membership, and the display already built into or paired with the device. A projector and impact screen make the room feel more like a course, but they are not required just to play Home Tee Hero.
