Can a Golf Simulator Double as a Home Theater?

Yes. A golf simulator can double as a home theater, especially if the projector, screen shape, seating, audio, and lighting are planned for both uses from the start. The main compromise is the impact screen: it has to survive golf balls, so it may not look as smooth or as uniform as a dedicated theater screen.
The Projector Is the Easy Part
A projector that can fill the simulator screen can also show movies, sports, and streaming video. The harder questions are image shape and where people sit.
Many simulator screens are taller than a typical 16:9 television image. That extra height is useful for golf, but widescreen movies may use only part of the screen. Decide whether that bothers you before you choose the enclosure and projector resolution.
The Impact Screen Will Always Be a Compromise
An impact screen is built to absorb repeated ball strikes. The weave, tension, seams, and padding that make it durable can also create texture or small wrinkles that a purpose-built theater screen would not have.
A good impact screen can still produce an enjoyable picture. It just should not be judged by the same standard as a fixed screen in a room where nothing ever hits it.
Do Not Put the Best Movie Seat in the Backswing
The center of the room may be ideal for a movie and exactly wrong for golf. Place the hitting position and safe swing area first. Then see where chairs or a sofa can go without forcing them to move every time someone wants to hit balls.
If furniture has to move, make that movement simple. A light bench or movable chairs are easier to live with than heavy theater recliners in a room that still needs open floor.
Two Lighting Modes Make the Room Much Better
Golf practice may need light on the golfer. Movies look better with the room dim. Put those needs on separate controls instead of trying to find one compromise brightness for everything.
The same idea applies to audio. Speakers can serve both uses as long as they stay outside the ball and club paths and do not crowd the front of the bay.
Decide Which Use Gets Priority
If golf is the main purpose, protect the simulator geometry and accept that the movie setup will be slightly unconventional. If movies matter just as much, choose the aspect ratio, projector, seating, and audio together before you commit to permanent construction.
