What does Sweat Tent offer for an outdoor sauna?
Published
Summary
Sweat Tent offers Large and Extra Large wood-fired outdoor sauna tents with steel stoves. Standard covers the tent and heating equipment, and Pro adds a cedar bench, two wool hats and eucalyptus oil for $200. The sauna needs a suitable outdoor site, dry hardwood and storage for extreme weather. Choose the size around seating and the preparation space in its model's setup guide, as well as the price.
The two sizes and what comes with them
Sweat Tent's XL product page lists two sizes, each with a 7ft standing height.
- Large (L): 6ft x 6ft, up to 6 people according to Sweat Tent's FAQ, on a QuickPop frame
- Extra Large (XL): 10ft x 10ft, up to 10 people according to the FAQ, raised on poles
Allow setup space and clearances beyond the advertised 6ft x 6ft Large and 10ft x 10ft XL dimensions. Follow the instructions for the supplied model.
Sweat Tent's product selection and included-equipment description identify the Standard setup as the tent, steel sauna stove with chimney, rocks and basket, thermometer, fire poker, heat gloves and roof cover. The product description also shows carry bags for storage. The roof cover fits over the top of the frame; it is not a substitute for indoor storage in extreme weather.
The Large and XL pages list the same Pro additions: a cedar bench, two wool hats and eucalyptus oil. Large Standard was $1,499 and Pro $1,699 on Sweat Tent's store, checked 2026-11-02: $1,699 - $1,499 = $200. Sweat Tent's FAQ gives a different list, with a bench, towel, hat and oils.
According to the FAQ, firewood, flooring, a bucket and ladle, and a chimney brush are sold separately.
Prices on Sweat Tent's store
Sweat Tent's US store shows the following Standard Black prices, checked 2026-11-02. The Large amount is shown in the product selector, and XL is identified as a separate Standard Black product:
- L: listed at $1,499, regular price $2,199
- XL: listed at $1,799, regular price $2,499
If a wood-fired tent for up to 6 people fits your yard and storage plan, consider the Sweat Tent L Standard at $1,499 on Sweat Tent's store, checked 2026-11-02. The XL Standard adds $1,799 - $1,499 = $300 and is described for up to 10 people. Check availability and the seating arrangement before ordering; the capacity claim does not tell you how much space each seat has.
Running cost is mostly wood. Sweat Tent's FAQ says a typical session uses about "1/5 of a bundle of firewood", so one bundle covers about 1 ÷ 1/5 = 5 sessions. Bundle prices vary by seller and region, so price a local bundle and divide by five.
Where it can go and what it needs
With no electrical hookup for the sauna itself, the ground, stove position and fuel storage become the main site decisions. A place that is convenient for carrying firewood still has to meet the maker's outdoor setup requirements.
The FAQ says the tent belongs on flat, stable ground and should "never" be used indoors. Sweat Tent's product page says it "stands on grass, a deck or a patio corner". The FAQ also says to avoid setting it up in heavy storms, lightning or high winds, and to "stake the corners" so the tent is not knocked over.
The Large setup guide calls for a flat, ventilated 8ft x 8ft outdoor spot, at least 2 feet from structures, without low branches. The XL guide specifies a 12ft x 12ft preparation spot. These are preparation areas, beyond the tents' advertised dimensions. Follow the supplied model instructions and local wood-burning rules.
For fuel, the FAQ calls for dry, seasoned hardwood and says to avoid softwoods, treated or painted wood, and wet or green wood. Without a woodpile, you will need a covered, dry place to store bought wood.
Setup and care
The L product page describes a roughly 15-minute setup, but the Large setup guide adds a separate first-use task: season the stove outside for 2–4 hours, then let it cool completely before bringing it near the tent. Allow for that preparation rather than promising a first session immediately after delivery. The L tent weighs 30 lbs and the stove 65 lbs, per the product page. The XL page lists the same 65 lb stove but no tent weight.
Use the supplied stove and sauna-grade rocks. The Large setup guide says to keep the fresh-air vent open throughout use, never leave the tent unattended while operating, and never move the stove while hot. Read the complete model instructions before the first fire; a short product comparison cannot replace the setup and operating sequence.
The care routine from the FAQ:
- Let the tent and stove cool fully before packing, and let the stove cool before cleaning
- Wipe the interior with a dry cloth after each session
- Empty the ash pan once it is cool
- Inspect zippers, seams and the chimney jack monthly
- Clean the chimney pipe each season, which is where the separately sold chimney brush comes in
- Air dry a wet canopy fully before packing, and store everything dry and indoors
Winter use
Sweat Tent's FAQ says winter use is supported, but it does not recommend leaving the tent set up year-round. In extreme weather such as heavy snow, the FAQ says the tent and stove must be stored indoors, or the warranty may be voided. In snow country, that means taking the sauna down and carrying it inside whenever a storm is forecast, with indoor room kept for the duffle and the 65 lb stove. For how tent saunas compare with other movable options, see this site's portable sauna guide.
