Sofas, beds, mattresses, dining tables, rugs and dressers carry real prices read at the shop that sells them, with the date on every row. Every other category is still sample data.

Privacy

We keep six anonymous counts, described in full below, and nothing about you as a person. The few third parties involved are named.

What we do not do

• No third-party analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no pixel of any kind. The counting we do ourselves is described in the next section, and it is the whole of it.
• No advertising, and no advertising network.
• No account, no login, and no email list of any kind — there is nowhere on this site to give us an address except the contact form.
• No cookies set by us, for any purpose, including preferences. The home you build uses local storage instead, described below; it behaves differently from a cookie in one way that matters: it is never attached to a request, so it never leaves your device.
• No selling or sharing of anything, because there is nothing to sell or share.

Because we set no cookies and keep no identifier, this site shows no consent banner. That is not an oversight.

What we count

Since 7 September 2026 the site sends a short note to its own server when one of six things happens, so that we can tell whether the site is used at all and which options people actually add to a list. The six, by the names the code uses, are:

• page_view — a page was opened. Carries the page's path.
• list_started — a list was changed for the first time in a visit.
• item_selected — an option was added to a list. Carries the category, the option (shop, brand and product name) and the household size.
• list_persisted — the browser accepted the list into local storage. Carries how many items the list keeps.
• return_visit — a stored list was picked up again. Carries the number of days since it was saved.
• affiliate_outbound_click — a link to a shop was followed. Carries the shop and the product page's address, without any query string.

That is the complete list of fields. Each note also carries the time it arrived. It does not carry your IP address, your browser's name, a cookie, or any identifier of a device or a person, because we never generate one; two notes from the same browser cannot be linked to each other, by us or by anyone. The notes are written to Cloudflare's Workers Analytics Engine on our own account, where they are kept for three months and then discarded. If your browser sends the Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is sent, and the site works exactly the same.

Why count at all: the Starter picks page is an editorial shortlist because we have never had a number that says what people actually choose. Once these counts are large enough to mean something, that page will say which options are picked most, and it will say how many lists that is based on. Until then it stays editorial and says so.

The list you build

The home you build is saved in your own browser, in local storage, under the single key ff_home_v1. It holds what you would expect it to hold: the household size, which option you picked in each category, which categories you switched off, which you marked bought, the budget you typed, and the price each item was showing when you were last here — that last one is how the site can tell you which prices have moved since. The list itself is never sent to us. What leaves the browser is the six counts above, and none of them carries the list, an account or an identifier: local storage is readable only by this site, in this browser, on this device, and we cannot read it even in principle.

Start fresh, on the home page, deletes the key outright. Clearing site data in your browser does the same. Using the site in a private window, or in a browser set to block site data, means nothing is kept and the site simply opens empty each time; that is a supported way to use it, not a fault.

Copy a link to this list puts the whole list into the web address instead — the link is the storage. Anyone holding that link can open the list, so treat one you share as public. The list in the link still reaches no server of ours.

Cookies set by other people

This is the part worth reading. When you follow a link from here to a shop, that shop, and the affiliate network that connects us to it, may set cookies in your browser. That is how a retailer knows to credit us if you buy something. Those cookies belong to them, not to us, and how long each lasts is set by that retailer's own program, not by us. We are not in any of those programs yet, so there is no honest general figure we can quote here; when we join one, its cookie window will be named on this page. We cannot read those cookies and we cannot delete them. You can, in your browser settings.

We never receive your name, your address, your card details or your order contents. What comes back to us from an affiliate network is a count and an amount, with no person attached.

The contact form

The contact form is hosted by Formspree, a third-party service in the United States. What you type into it — including any name and email address you choose to give — passes through Formspree's servers and arrives in an email inbox we control. Formspree's own privacy policy applies to that step and we have no control over it. Do not put anything sensitive in the form.

Messages are kept only as long as needed to answer them. If you want yours deleted, ask in the message itself and we will delete it once it is answered.

Hosting

The site is served from Cloudflare's network as a set of static files, and the six counts above are received by a small program on that same Cloudflare account. Like every web host, Cloudflare processes the network requests needed to serve a page, and may keep short-lived operational logs. We do not have access to visitor-level logs and do not request them.

Fonts

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads. That request carries your IP address, as any request does. No other Google service is used here.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone. Since the only thing we keep is anonymous counts with no person attached, this is straightforward.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the bottom of the page changes with it, and any change that affects what leaves your browser will be described here rather than merely reworded.
