About

About this site

This site exists because of one small, annoying problem.

People start planning a house with a folder of photos of other people's houses. Then they walk into a builder's office and try to describe what they want out loud. It rarely goes well. The builder sends back something generic, because a vague brief can only produce a generic answer.

So we built a tool that turns what is in your head into a picture and a written brief, in under a minute, for free.

Who runs it

Kaz

One person, writing under a pen name. Not a company, not an agency, and no sales team. Nobody here will ever call you.

Why there is no address or phone number

This is run by an individual, not a business with an office. Publishing a home address and a personal phone number is not something a private person should have to do to publish a website. The contact form reaches us, and we answer within two business days.

Other sites

The same person runs a small number of other sites on unrelated subjects. If you notice that, it is not a network of fake reviewers — it is one person with several interests. We would rather say it than have you find it.

How we check a page

Primary sources first

U.S. government data, manufacturer warranty documents, technical associations, and the documents a reader can actually ask a builder for. Where a figure comes from a survey rather than a measurement, we say which survey.

We record the date

Every figure carries the date we last read the source. A page that has not been re-checked says so rather than implying it is current.

If the source does not support it, we narrow it

Where a public source will not carry a price or performance claim, we either narrow the wording until it does or mark the point “Not confirmed”. We would rather publish a smaller claim than an unsupported one.

No superlatives without data

“Biggest”, “cheapest” and “most common” need a source that actually ranks things. Where we cannot rank, we describe instead.

AI does not decide facts

AI may help us organize research or draft structure. It does not replace source checking, and we do not publish a factual claim because an AI system said it was true.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will change it and say what changed.

How we write

We include the bad parts

Every style page tells you what is annoying about that style to live with. If we only listed the good parts, the page would be an ad.

We do not invent numbers

If we publish a cost, it has a source and a date next to it. If we do not have a solid figure, we say so instead of guessing.

Where sources disagree, we say so

We do not pick one and stay quiet about the other.

We label every picture

The photographs in the style articles are of real houses — free stock images, via Unsplash. The pictures from the design tool are drawn by AI, and we label them illustrations so nobody mistakes one for a photograph of a house that exists.

We say when we get paid

Right now, nothing on this site earns us anything. See how we will make money.
